Project Context

Many apps offer updates and news about football matches and players, but none have all the features combined into one. Fans often use multiple apps for different information such as stats, match details, and transfer news.

Developing a single mobile app with all of these features would greatly benefit and simplify the experience for football fans.

DISCOVER

I researched existing football apps to understand their pros and cons and gain insight into market requirements. I also examined the latest UI trends used by successful apps. As a football fan, I was able to identify areas for improvement in each app.

Survey & User Research

By researching existing apps, I gained insight into what made some successful and others not. I aimed to gain a more personal understanding of the issues faced by players and enthusiasts, so I conducted user surveys and asked various questions.

Additionally, I gathered personal suggestions and ideas from football players about potential app features.

Survey Questions

What is your name and age?

How often do you play football?

How many hours do you play?

Do you always have people to play with?

How do you find people to play?

Name few apps that you use to get information on players and matches?

What do you like about that app ?

What do you think the app lacks ?

What features, do you think a football app should consist?

How has things changed after covid?

Are you a football fan, who follows latest matches and transfers?

Name few apps, that you use for getting information on matches and transfers?

User Persona

Creating a user persona based on a deep understanding of user behavior and needs enables defining the target audience and determining necessary or unnecessary features from a user-centered perspective. I developed a user persona to identify the main issues and set my target user. This allows me to clarify who the app is being designed for and what features will be most beneficial.

David Cooper

About David Cooper

Meet David, a football enthusiast living in Bangalore, India. He enjoys playing and practicing football with friends in his free time. However, due to his father's job, Ray frequently moves to new locations and struggles to find suitable venues for practice and finds it difficult to get his hands on new equipment. He also finds it difficult to connect with local football groups that exist in and around his house.

The goal is to create a mobile app solution to address these challenges for football enthusiasts like David.

IDEATE

I began the design process by creating rough sketches and paper prototypes. This method is a great way to quickly explore different ideas and layouts without committing to a final design. It also allows for easy experimentation and iteration, which is essential when designing a product.

Additionally, the process of ideation and sketching gave me an initial understanding of how the final product might look and function, which was valuable in identifying any issues or improvements that needed to be made early on in the process.

Process

The mobile app was designed to solve the problems football players face everyday and also help them in playing regularly to maintain their fitness, using a 4-step process. The project took 10 days to complete, including prototyping and testing.

Convert ideas and sketches to digital work

TEST

Prototype the design and get feedback.

DESIGNING ROUGH SCREENS

Creating rough screens allowed me to experiment and iterate how certain features would look like. This freedom allowed me to try different approaches and design elements, resulting in a more polished final product. It was also productive to communicate ideas and test assumptions before I started designing the UI.
